  1. Great video and very good info. Thank you! One correction, at 14:53 you stated the expansion tank goes on a hot water line. That’s incorrect. It goes above your hot water TANK on the cold water line.

  2. My insurance company gives me a $50/Year discount to have one of these. At $500 or more plus tax for these units, depending on brand, plus extra plumbing parts and doing a DIY install, it would take me more than 10 years to recoup the money invested. On top of that, my research says the useful lifespan of one of these is 3-6 years depending on indoor or outdoor use. If an insurance company you want to use says “you must have one of these installed to get insurance”, that’s one thing. But if just looking to get a discount from your insurance company, do the math. In my case it makes no sense to install one of these. I travel a lot so I just turn off the water valve where it enters the house when I’m away for any length of time and my alarm system has water sensors to alert me of any catastrophic water issue.

  3. Concern about the manufacturer going out of business is why I chose the Moen Flo. Moen is a gigantic corporation that isn’t going anywhere in my lifetime – my entire house is plumbed with their fixtures and their lifetime warranties. I don’t have the same confidence about the group of investors that now own Phyn (fun fact – the investor group includes HGTV’s Property Brothers, the Scott twins).
