Apple Home 101: EP1
In this first video of my new Apple Home 101 series, I’m sharing my blueprint for building a rock-solid smart home foundation starting with the most critical piece: your home network.
After years of creating smart home content, I’ve learned that without the right foundation, everything eventually falls apart. In this complete series, I’ll share strategies I wish I’d known from day one.
This video covers:
– Why your network is the most important foundation for a reliable smart home
– Two main approaches to choosing the right router (simple mesh systems vs. advanced control)
– WiFi bands and why they matter for smart home devices
– Network separation for improved security
– Strategic placement of routers and access points
– Ethernet ports and PoE considerations
– My current home network setup
Whether you’re just starting your smart home journey or trying to get your existing setup on the right track, this video series will be your complete roadmap to a reliable, responsive, and future-proof Apple Home system.

Hi does anyone know to get aqara g100 to show on Apple TV?
I live where homes are separated by 75 ft or more on each side. The street is 400ft from the house. Does this matter relative to security? I see other networks but mostly the neighbor to either side and I cannot see the neighbor two homes over and they have the same wireless router I have.
Most people don’t want to become an expert in networking to improve security. We need a guide : buy this to separate 3 wired things from a wired PC and connect wireless PCs and things to the Internet. That is my situation.
I disconnected an Amazon Fire I only used to operate lights. I have the app on a phone – sim card removed – guest wifi. My other phone connects via guest. My telescope PC connects to a temporary wifi unit to a tablet only for this purpose, so doesn’t get to the Internet. If it needs to, I plug it in with Ethernet.
So wireless ISP to the wireless router box. A switch expands its Ethernet ports but isn’t a router. I need to separate things with a router. I have an ASUS AC2900 wireless router I used with a Verizon DSL modem. Plug its WAN to the wireless router now used and setup this as my main network, wired and wireless? It gets complicated fast.
I don’t think I need what you use or do I?
I don’t use my LG OLED55C7P’s smart features so I removed the network settings. The Roku seems like a potential security risk to put on guest.
So I’m doing something wrong in my home and I’m not super smart when it comes to this stuff and the terms you’re using so I’m sorry 😂 but my Phillips hue lights keep just randomly going out and I can’t turn them back on with the app or the switch it’s like they just stopped working and it’s happened on multiple rooms nd I think I’m maybe overloading my WiFi idk I have t mobile can you explain what I’m doing wrong please and can you explain the WiFi boxes at the beginning is that instead of like a T-Mobile or a Verizon comcast AT&T etc.?
